In 1998, two engineers struck out on their own and founded kW Engineering in a remodeled tomato warehouse near Oakland, California’s Jack London Square. At the time, the state struggled with deregulation of the electric utility industry, and the future of energy efficiency was uncertain. Our objective was to support our clients by providing energy efficiency options for commercial and industrial businesses, while engaging in work that we found important and rewarding.
In the beginning, we provided modeling, energy audits, and analysis of energy efficiency options to larger companies that lacked specialized staff . We are fortunate to experience continued growth through repeat business. In 1999, we began providing support services to Pacific Gas & Electric Company - our first, large investor-owned utility in California. From there our client list has grown to include Southern California Edison, the City of Oakland, a number of nationwide Energy Service Companies (ESCOs), and many private clients. Our emergence in the renewable energy market was in 2002, as we began support of solar projects through the California Energy Commission (CEC) self-generation incentive programs. In 2004, to accommodate our continued work load increase in Southern California, we opened a second office in Long Beach, CA. We also expanded our services to other states, and opened our Salt Lake City office in 2005 and our Chicago office in 2012.
Thanks to kW Engineering's great work, I met and in some cases exceeded my goals. I couldn't have done it without you guys.”
