JIM KELSEY, P.E.
PRESIDENT
Jim has been in the energy efficiency business since 1989. He founded kW Engineering in 1998 in order to do the work that he loves – exploring the technical side of energy efficiency to find innovative and reliable ways to save energy. He is a licensed mechanical engineer in California and Nevada, a LEED accredited professional , has conducted analyses for hundreds of projects, and taught extensively on HVAC and refrigeration.
ARIK COHEN, P.E.
PRINCIPAL
Arik has over 20 years of energy engineering experience, and provides support to a large variety of utility and state sponsored DSM programs, helping clients achieve their energy reduction goals. He currently leads the Retro-commissioning group at kW. Arik also has experience managing engineering teams performing due-diligence reviews for PG&E and SCE’s Demand Side Management programs.
"SUNNY" DEVNANI, P.E.
PRINCIPAL
“Sunny” manages kW’s Salt Lake City regional office and joined kW in 2005. His experience includes on-site audits, retro-commissioning, field data collection, measurement & verification, simulation modeling, and design assistance. His primary areas of expertise include estimation of energy usage and savings associated with high efficiency retrofits at grocery stores, quick service restaurants, commercial office buildings, schools, hospitals, light industrial facilities and farms.
SEAN HARLEMAN, P.E.

Sean Harleman oversees kW’s Utility Program Technical Services business unit with 20 years in the energy efficiency industry. He manages utility clients across the country, and his technical experience and program management skills have been essential to kW’s success supporting utilities’ demand-side programs. Sean’s technical experience includes design assistance, audits, simulation modeling, field data collection, and measurement & verification.
ANTONIO HUIZAR, P.E.
PRINCIPAL
Antonio oversees the Southern California Energy Services business unit and opened kW’s Long Beach office in 2004. He’s grown our Southern California client base which now includes such customers as SCE, SCG, SDG&E, and SoCal REN. With over 13 years in the energy efficiency industry, Antonio’s experience includes M&V, audits, field data collection, demand response, ET, commissioning, RCx, HVAC system design, and simulation modeling.
DEVAN JOHNSON, P.E.
PRINCIPAL
Devan entered the energy industry in 1998 and is the Principal of kW’s IT and distributed generation programs. His experience includes design and implementation of tracking databases for utility energy efficiency programs, and management of technical support activities for utility incentive programs. Devan designed and leads the ongoing development of the kW Tracker platform for managing audits and RCx projects which performs usage data analytics and whole building M&V.
PETER POLLARD, P.E.
PRINCIPAL
Peter has over 28 years of experience. He developed and implemented improvements and expansions of equipment and buildings in a broad range of industries and facilities, completing millions of dollars worth of projects. Peter’s project and technical experience includes HVAC systems, industrial refrigeration, lighting, production machinery, industrial process equipment, electrical controls and drives, pollution control, industrial maintenance, and facilities construction. His extensive analytical skills encompass both technical and financial aspects of business projects.
ALISON FARMER, PhD
DIRECTOR
Alison Farmer is a widely recognized expert in energy-efficient laboratory facilities and HVAC systems. Alison began working in the efficiency field in 2010 and continues to leverage her background as a top-flight research scientist to bring efficient solutions to kW’s higher education and biotech clients. Alison is kW’s lead engineer for Stanford University projects, where she provides both high-level management and highly detailed engineering expertise for energy audits, savings analysis, preparation of design-build guidelines, and commissioning.
DAVID GILLILAND, P.E.
DIRECTOR
David joined us in 2006 after graduating with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Southern California. David currently leads our Southern California energy audits and retro-commissioning teams. He focuses on schools, municipalities, and tech companies to identify and implement energy-saving projects in their facilities.
DAVID JUMP, P.E.
DIRECTOR
David has over 22 years of experience providing engineering and energy efficiency services to utilities and large commercial customers. His expertise includes energy savings measurement and verification (M&V), building retro commissioning (RCx), energy auditing and technical reviews. He also conducts research for the California Energy Commission and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in whole building M&V methods based on advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) data (M&V 2.0).
