kW Engineering just completed a study to optimize chiller plant performance for
the Ordway, a 515,000 square foot office building in downtown Oakland. Our engineers performed in-depth measurement including chilled water supply and return temperatures, condenser water temperatures, chiller true power, flow and other spot measurements. We paired detailed data collected during a period of intense plant instrumentation with trends from the site energy management system to project an annual load profile for the building. Our engineers then analyzed energy efficiency opportunities using the plant load data. We also provided the client with projected installation and operating costs for several chiller plant configurations including a new VFD chiller.
Energy Efficiency Measures Evaluated
- High Efficiency Chillers
- Variable Speed Chillers
- Variable Flow Pumping
- Improved Cooling Tower Control
Projected Savings
- 421,000 kWh per year
- 390 kW peak demand
- $104,000 per year in operating costs
