Client: Large Northwest Utility (confidential)

Heat Rejection

Scope: Conduct energy audits & quantify energy and cost savings from identified measures.

Our engineers conducted on-site surveys at 42 Albertson's supermarkets in Oregon, Washington and Utah totaling approximately 1.5 Million square feet. We then used these data to estimate energy savings from control retrofits on lighting, HVAC and refrigeration systems. The refrigeration analysis was conducted using a model developed in-house.

Energy Efficiency Measures Evaluated

  • Lighting retrofits
  • Lighting controls
  • Nighttime setback for rooftop packaged units and air handlers
  • Air handler variable air volume conversions
  • Case lighting controls
  • Anti-sweat heater controls
  • Defrost termination
  • Floating suction control
  • Improved condenser fan control

Projected Savings

Cost effective EEMs on refrigeration systems, lighting, and HVAC systems totaled over 9.3 million kWh. Installation is underway. The projects will qualify for energy efficiency incentives exceeding $1 Million.
